Understanding CMS pages, grids, and widgets

A CMS page is a free-form content page that an implementer builds using grids and widgets. Unlike list pages, CMS pages do not pull data from a lens. They exist to present editorial, brand, or structural content, such as landing pages, brand guidelines, or help content. CMS pages are available in all portal types.

Content on a CMS page is organised into sections, each containing a grid or a carousel:

  • A grid defines the column and row structure that widgets sit within. Multiple sections can be added to a page and reordered as needed.

  • A carousel displays content in a horizontally scrollable format and is an alternative to a grid where that presentation suits the content better.

Widgets

Widgets are the individual content elements placed inside a grid or carousel. The following widget types are available:

  • A text widget displays formatted text content. It supports headings, lists, inline links, and mailto links, and can be configured with a background colour and padding.

  • A button widget displays a labelled button that links to an internal page, an external URL, or an asset listing. Button colour, alignment, and padding are configurable.

  • An image widget displays an image selected from the DAM. Image quality, sizing (contain or cover), focus area, and an optional link are configurable.

  • A video widget displays a video file selected from the DAM. Playback options include autoplay, loop, mute, and show controls.

  • An asset grid widget displays a grid of assets from a specified lens, linking through to an asset list page. Column and row layout, image sizing, and background colour are configurable.

  • An asset search widget displays a search field that returns assets from a specified lens. Search can be scoped by name, keywords, states, and types.

  • A typography widget displays font families from typography assets stored in the DAM. Users can switch between fonts and optionally download font files if this is enabled in the widget settings.

  • A colour palette widget displays a brand colour palette created in the portal’s theming settings. Layout (columns or rows) and background colour are configurable.

Not all widget types are available in all portal types. See Widget reference for a full breakdown of widget availability by portal type.

Localisation

CMS pages can have locale-specific versions, allowing different content to be presented to users based on their locale setting. Each locale is edited independently within the same page. If no localised version exists for a user’s locale, the portal displays the default locale version instead.

See Localise a CMS page for configuration details.
